Doesn’t matter black or white

People always wandered, “What skin type I have? “Or “Is my skin shiny, or too oily?” Skin problems have always been an issue to everyone. Flawless skin takes time patience and a lot of high maintenance and tons of money. But let me tell you some tips which is not only cheap but you will find it all around you.

v    Vitamins and minerals enriched healthy diet:
a.      The foundation of skin, nail and hair is vitamin B which can be found in foods like oatmeal, eggs, rice, bananas and even Vegemite.
b.      Vitamin C and vitamin E plays active role in protecting our skin from the exposure of the sun. Vitamin C can be found in foods such as lemons, limes, oranges, bell peppers, cranberry/grape juice, cauliflower, and leafy greens and vitamin E can be found in foods such as olives, spinach, nuts, seeds and vegetable oils.
c.       Vitamin A is like the mechanic of our skin. It repairs the skin tissue, without it our skin will look dry and flaky. Vitamin A is found in fruits and vegetables.
d.      If you want to get rid of the dark circles and bruises then load up of  leafy green vegetables, dairy products, and meats such as liver, as they contain Vitamin K.

v    Travelling out:
Simply eating vitamins and minerals won’t be sufficient to keep your skin safe, you won’t be eating 24/7. When travelling out it’s better to wear sunscreen with a SPF of 30 to 40 and apply it evenly on your skin rather than a chunk of it. It’s better to use a face friendly water resistent sun screen. It’s best not to go out during the afternoon usually 10 am to 4 pm, depending on the temperature of season and geographical location. Even if you go wear a broad visored hat and sunglasses to protect your face.

v    Skin type:
Finding out the type of your skin is absolutely, not all skins can be treated equally. Oily, dry, sensitive, or combination skin. Research your skin type on the internet, from a dermatologist or skin care books. Each of those types requires different types of treatment therefore severals should be avoided accordingly.
a.      Using new cream and wearing scarf gives you rashes, which indicates that you have a sensitive skin.
b.      If your skin is prone to pimples and has a thick and dull apperance with greasy shine, then that means your skin is oily.
c.       If the above symptoms only appearing on your nose, forehead and chin and is fine everywhere else, then you have a combination skin.
d.      Feeling of moisturizing your skin all the time and tightness means you have a dry skin and you must moisturize it frequently.
It’s not neccessary to use toner and make sure you avoid harsh chemicals, and chemicals that aren't good for your skin type. It’s highly recommended to clean your face 2-3 times everyday. Use good cleanser and put on sufficient amount of moisturizer.

v    Pamper your skin:
Your skin is delicate and sensitive so apply face mask or steam your face once a week. But apply those products which are suitable for your particular skin or the consequence will be disastrous. Tea- tree oil is good for skin, you can directly apply it or steam your face with it. Yogurt is is really gentle and has cleansing abilties and is essential for dry, oily and sensitive skin. Drastic treatments for skin like retinol cream, which is a derivative of vitamin A, and glycolic peels, can be hazardous if frequently used as it takes off a layer of your skin. Don’t forget to wash and moisturize after steaming, exfoliating or applying a face mask and follow the directions specified on the products for optimum results.

v    Scrape twice a week:
Exfoliating dead skin of your face is recommended if you want a fresh and glowing look. Dead skin traps oil and bacterias that cause acne. Exfoliate gently with a scrub or feel, frequent exfoliating is absolutely unneccessary as it will make it worse.

v    Dealing with Stretch marks: Althogh stretch marks cannot be removed with natural and inexpensive methods it can only be minimized by keeping the skin moist by applying lotion. Another way to hide the stretch mark is by tanning and also by applying vitamin E.

v    Smokings harms:
For all those smokers, here is another reason to stop smoking. Another way to distinguish smokers from non smokers by the lines above the mouth that tend to form from constant lip pursing. Smoking is the second biggest cause of skin damage after sun exposure. Nicotine bolcks the blood vesels and decreases the flow of oxygen to skin.

v    Exercise:
Here’s a hard work for those lazy people, if you want something good you must work hard for it. Cardio exercise is really good for skin as it flushes out bacterias from inside the body and clears out the blood vessels to increase the flow of oxygen. It also relieves stress which directly impacts on the skin and can be clearly visible.

v    Sleep:
Here is something many of us are good at doing. Make sure you take eight hours sleep everyday, depending on age. Teenagers should get more than eight hours a day for healthy growth. Being properly rested means more energy to go about it’s daily routine.

Morning routine:

“Facing extinction or reincarnation”- Alternative Energy

Rising prices of fuel and continuous pollution has raised several questions in our mind, “ are we safe? ”, “ will our children or their children have a better health? ”. Life without energy will be somewhere beyond imagination to live without currently with so much technological advancement, which not only took over our work but also our homes. But as the phrase suggests, “ Where there is a will, there is a way ”. Let me give sometime potential knowledge of alternative energy which are currently expensive compared to fossil fuel and nuclear power but very ecofriendly.

*      Osmotic Power (Salt water power): Earth 70% water out of which only 3 % is consumable by terrestrial animals which obviously includes us. Energy is generated when salt water is added to fresh water by reverse electro dialysis. When the two water types comes into contact a pressure is created which can be used to power turbines and thus create electricity.

*      Helioculture: This type of process is used to cultivate fuel from algae. Microorganisms take in  solar energy, carbon dioxide and brackish water and at the end of the process excrete the fuels which are collected later. The process follows through a simple cycle- CO2 is released which are consumed by the organisms and they excrete fuels which are burnt and thus CO2 is produced and thus the cycle goes on. It is although expensive but has several advantages.

*      Piezoelectricity: Human wants energy human creates energy. Kinetic energy of human beings have been a potential source of energy. Some materials can generate electric field if enough mechanical stress is put on it. Tiles made of piezoelectric material can be placed on busy places and even in the soles of the shoes, therefore electricity can be made on every step we take.

*      Hot Rock Power: Earth Power! Geothermal energy relatively new to the world. It is used by pumping saltwater to the earth’s mantle which heats up and can be used to power up steam turbines and create electricity. The advantage of this is that, the energy can be provided 24/7 and easily be controlled.

Consumption of energy is playing vital role in our everyday life. Office, home, hospital, educational institutes, military and even in areas we don’t know of. As important in life as well burning our pockets and causing environmental problems. Alternative energy is the only way we can survive in this overwhelming situation and of course make our earth we call home into a home.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate social responsibility are those benefits for any companies that does not give any monetary profit in the short term, but instead gives a strong stability and promotes positive social and environmental change. Corporations in developing countries like Bangladesh are not too far behind in this responsibilities.

Responsibilities depend on the ethics of the corporation. Large Bangladeshi corporations are busy saving the country from pollutions being created by the developed countries. Afforestation an initiative taken by a Bangladeshi corporation to prevent pollution by planting trees along the highway not only reduces carbon emission but also increases the beauty of nature, providing clean and safe drinking water in rural areas and providing high standard for agricultural sustainability by providing the farmers with sufficient education and technology. Large corporates also sponsors many social awareness programs for donations, recycling and natural disasters programs. Corporations mostly targets the educations sector as a viable social responsibility as education is the backbone of the nation, billions of taka are invested each year by many corporations to fund the studies of under privileged children.

Medical sectors in developing countries has fallen behind and corporations are trying their best in providing funds for free health care in many districts and providing awareness to underprivileged pregnant mothers & their infants. In order to conserve power and reduce pollution many corporations are turning to safe energy efficient inputs for production like using solar energy, using Sky- Light roof during daylight, maintaining bio- diversity, proper waste disposal systems and using “Green Belt” to cover the plant, proving safe and standard work environment and maintaining “No Child Labor” policy.

Corporations responsibilities with proper ethical policies not only benefits the environment at a large scale but also greatly benefits the corporations in the long term by gaining social image.

Ways to comprehend comprehension

An understanding of the general idea of a passage in an easy and useful manner and remembering the context is what we usually define as a comprehension. There are a lot of effective solutions to one’s problem towards reading, understanding and delivering the desired and accurate answers.

Ø    Mechanics and effects of comprehension:

Before jumping into the problems, let’s see how comprehension clicks in our brain. When a sentence or phrase is read the brain tries to portray a picture of the elements present in those words.
Unfortunately some of us are incapable of making mental pictures effectively, so if comprehension and understanding suffer.
Poor imagining frequently causes problems amongst individuals. The one with the poor imagining ability has to struggle organizing their thoughts. They tend to be scattered or fragmented when they relate events or stories. Therefore the listener tends to ask a lot of questions to arrange stories together. Thus the listener and speaker gets frustrated. As, the speaker has no idea how to fix the problem and falls into the illusion that “why isn’t that person getting it? “ This also happens the other way around, from the listeners end.

Ø    Comprehension Levels:

*      Literal: stated with facts, memorization by repetition, Surface understanding only. This level is mainly based on objective type questions. Questions for this level are mostly who, what, when, and where.

*      Interpretive: meaning and implication rather than what is stated, finding opinions, brushing experiences, leveling up English, making logical thoughts and guesses. This level is mainly based on subjective type questions. Questions for this level are mostly thought-provoking questions like why, what if, and how.

*      Applied: Combining both literal and interpretive and extending the context by applying analytical and synthesizing various ideas into one. In this level we are analyzing or synthesizing information and applying it to other information.

Ø    Types of questions and method to answer:

*      Direct Questions: Answers will be stated plainly in the passage.

*      Inferential Questions: Direct answer cannot be found, prompt decision is needed to be made from general knowledge and write answer through infer from given words or phrases.

*      Rephrasing Questions: Describe in your own words and rewriting them but keeping the meaning intact.

*      Vocabulary Questions: Explaining word or phrase meaning

Ø    Issues regarding comprehension:

*      Insufficient reading habit: Generally people have the tendency to skim over the texts rather giving it a proper reading, thus creating no sense.

*      Selection of the reader: Most people are fascinated by the fiction type passage but in reality fiction type passages are very rare to appear.

*      Incorrect process of reading: Reading slowly declines speed, therefore time for other questions has to be compromised.

*      Deficient vocabulary: As many of us has to abandon reading due to some circumstances we lack in proper vocabulary. While reading a passage what hampers our speed is a term of word which we are not acquainted of. So, we waste most of our time in guessing what could be the meaning of this particular word in a particular passage.

*      Boredom: Readers who are acquainted to fictions gets bored quite easily over a non-fiction passage. So, importance towards the development of other categories must be given a fair thought.

Ø    Remedy regarding the comprehension:

*      Developing habit over reading: Reading book, newspapers, story books, magazines and even instruction manuals greatly increases the habit of reading.

*      Enhancing vocabulary: Reading new sophisticated books and novels increase your library of words and even turning the pages of dictionary now and then adds new word in your head.

*      Holding patience: Reading long passages can be tiring and wearisome, so finish it all at once rather one part a time. That way the whole idea will be built up in your brain.

*      Will to feel: Always have a strong will power while reading a passage.  Always remember that you are paying with your time and patience in return for knowledge.

*      Visualization and recording: Always try to visualize what is in the context and picturize with sounds and environment and also keep track of the time of reading and of course set a goal first.

*      Attachment of the parts: Reading the whole passage in such a way that the first paragraph compliments the second paragraph and so on.

*      Practice and determination: Sheer determination and hard work with proper knowledge of grammar and spelling will bring healthy answers to the comprehension.

Ø    Tips during examinations:

*      ‘Point’, ‘Evidence’ and ‘Explain’-make point, show evidence and explain how it all adds up and make sense.

*      Thoroughly and carefully study the passage, familiarize with the context.

*      Read the questions then highlight the keywords that might help to find evidence might come.

*      Then again read the passage and highlight keywords, phrases which are related to the questions.

*      View the marks for each questions and then distribute time and effort.

*      Pre- plan your writings by assigning achievable time to each passage.

*      Use quotation marks while quoting from passage. Direct copy from the passage may lead to deduction in marks.

*      Double reading the questions after finishing with the answers ensures a correct answer and rechecking the answers to make sure no points are left out

Comprehension is a major part in the English language structure. It not only defines the level of integrity of an individual but also takes that individual in a new height. A worthy challenge defining new promise of fluency and communication between each other and enhancing one’s derelict mind into a better and efficient mind.

All in all comprehensions should not be looked as a bridge to pass any examination rather it should be looked as road to a better knowledge and theory.
