“Facing extinction or reincarnation”- Alternative Energy

Rising prices of fuel and continuous pollution has raised several questions in our mind, “ are we safe? ”, “ will our children or their children have a better health? ”. Life without energy will be somewhere beyond imagination to live without currently with so much technological advancement, which not only took over our work but also our homes. But as the phrase suggests, “ Where there is a will, there is a way ”. Let me give sometime potential knowledge of alternative energy which are currently expensive compared to fossil fuel and nuclear power but very ecofriendly.

*      Osmotic Power (Salt water power): Earth 70% water out of which only 3 % is consumable by terrestrial animals which obviously includes us. Energy is generated when salt water is added to fresh water by reverse electro dialysis. When the two water types comes into contact a pressure is created which can be used to power turbines and thus create electricity.

*      Helioculture: This type of process is used to cultivate fuel from algae. Microorganisms take in  solar energy, carbon dioxide and brackish water and at the end of the process excrete the fuels which are collected later. The process follows through a simple cycle- CO2 is released which are consumed by the organisms and they excrete fuels which are burnt and thus CO2 is produced and thus the cycle goes on. It is although expensive but has several advantages.

*      Piezoelectricity: Human wants energy human creates energy. Kinetic energy of human beings have been a potential source of energy. Some materials can generate electric field if enough mechanical stress is put on it. Tiles made of piezoelectric material can be placed on busy places and even in the soles of the shoes, therefore electricity can be made on every step we take.

*      Hot Rock Power: Earth Power! Geothermal energy relatively new to the world. It is used by pumping saltwater to the earth’s mantle which heats up and can be used to power up steam turbines and create electricity. The advantage of this is that, the energy can be provided 24/7 and easily be controlled.

Consumption of energy is playing vital role in our everyday life. Office, home, hospital, educational institutes, military and even in areas we don’t know of. As important in life as well burning our pockets and causing environmental problems. Alternative energy is the only way we can survive in this overwhelming situation and of course make our earth we call home into a home.
