UTV doors detail and manufacturers
I guess from the inception of the UTV, manufactures
thought/hoped we could operate these new toys as they were intended…as work
horses. WRONG! Of course, we push anything we can get behind the wheel of too
the limit, and what happens when you push it to the limit, some crazy wrecks.
When something like this happens you will want some UTV doors protecting you!
So
why don’t these UTV side x sides doors come stock with some kind of doors, who
knows, but fortunately UTV accessory manufactures seen the opportunity to
provide UTV owners with some quality doors. Not only are UTV doors designed to
help keep you in but they also help keep dangerous objects out. Lots of objects
get kicked up by the front tires and catching a rock to the chest or arm is depressing. Also consider fallen
timber on the trail and you have to squeeze by it, doors will keep that branch
out of the cockpit. Beyond added safety solid panel UTV doors help keep mud
out. Keeping you cleaner and making cleaning out the cab easier.
The
mid-shoulder height door is the most popular, maybe because it’s made by the
most popular UTV door manufacturer, Pro Armor. Mid-shoulder doors are high
enough to give you full protection (in an upright stance), but also low enough
you can comfortably rest your arm on top of the door. Neck-high
doors are just that. They come up to the base of your neck and you can just see
out over the top of the door. While these doors offer added protection they do
limit your line of vision on either side of the UTV.
Full
coverage doors are suitable for
full cabin enclosure kits. These style doors are intended to
make working out in uncomfortable conditions more bearable, such as plowing
snow or transporting in the rain. To get more information on full enclosures
for the Rhino, RZR, Mule, Commander, Teryx, Prowler and Ranger check our post
on those accessories here. 1/2
doors offer limited protection but also allow a good line of sight to the sides
of the UTV. Making it easier to maneuver in tight spot's.1/4 doors are not very popular and
we’re mostly designed for utility UTV’s and they offered a solution to help
divert mud and rocks from entering the cab. Not intended to provide safety in a
roll over.
Doors are available netted or solid.
There’s not much of a price difference between the two and if you’re primarily
riding trails I’d suggest solid doors. Just makes sense to help keep the most
mud out of the cabin as possible.
Like always, I
included a list of UTV doors manufactures and the best places to get
them. If you have anything to add to the post please feel free to comment
